In a set of guidelines released on Thursday, the Ministry of Education stated that among the regulations that coaching centers must abide by are the following: no student under the age of 16 or those who have not completed their secondary education; a fair and reasonable fee. A proper grievance redressal system; and infrastructure requirements.

Additionally, the government has directed these institutions not to run deceptive ads or guarantee parents and students high grades or rankings prior to enrollment.

This action is being taken in response to an alarming increase in student suicides around the nation, particularly in Kota, Rajasthan, which is referred to be India’s coaching capital.

“In the lack of any established policies or regulations, the number of unregulated private coaching facilities in the nation is increasing. The Education Ministry stated that incidents of these centers adopting numerous malpractices. Including charging outrageous fees to students, putting students under unnecessary stress to the point where they kills onself, losing students’ lives in fires and other accidents, and many other malpractices, are frequently reported in the media.

A coaching center must have previous approval from a competent body in order to open, operate, or maintain one. According to the ministry, those who are already operating without permission must apply for registration within the next three months.

Coaching centers are prohibited from hiring tutors with less education than a bachelor’s degree or from using tutors who have been found guilty of “any offense involving moral turpitude.”

According to the criteria, coaching centers are allowed to charge fair and reasonable costs. They also have to give receipts, a prospectus detailing the courses they provide. How long they last, how many lessons, lectures, tutorials, etc., and so on.

If a student leaves a course after paying for it in full. The cost of the remaining time must be reimbursed within ten days. It said that mess and hostel costs are also covered by this.

“Students can file complaints by placing a complaint box or register at the coaching center. The coaching facility will include a committee to handle student problems and complaints. (viii) Male and female restrooms should be provided on the grounds of the coaching center building, the standards recommend.
